Senegal vs. Algeria: Who Will Win 2019 AFCON ?

The last two countries in AFCON, Senegal and Algeria will clash head-on this Friday 2:00PM (Central Time). Watch it Here.

The last-time Algeria made it to the finals, Riyad Mahrez was not even born then. The Manchester City forward scored a last minute free-kick against Nigeria to put them in the finals for the first time in 29 years. Senegal on the other hand has never won the AFCON, and Liverpool forward- Sadio Mane is determined to make history with his team-mates.

The two African countries will definitely put on a show for the rest of the world to see.The last time the West African nation played against the North African was last month during the group stages and the match ended in Algeria winning 1-0. Remarkably, for a team like Senegal, they reached the World Cup 2018 quarter-finals but have never won the AFCON, in fact the closest they have gotten to is the final in 2002 against Cameroon in a penalty shootout.

Based on this, we can see that Algeria and Senegal made use of the same formation (4-1-4-1). Coincidentally or not, both managers also decided to place their favorable players Sadio Mane (No.10) and Riyad Mahrez (No.7) head-on. Their last game ended with the Senegalese having more possession (55%) than the Algerians, although, the Algerian squad had more shot accuracy (25%) than Senegal (16.6).

Algeria has being undefeated throughout the group stages till the semi-finals, Senegal on the other hand has not being beaten by any other country during this tournament except from Algeria.

Mahrez vs. Mane

This match will not only feature the best forwards and top scorers in the African Championship but they also happen to be the best in the Europe and the World. Sadio Mane was a key part in wining the Champions League for Liverpool and is determined to do anything for Senegal to win their first African Championship, in fact he said he is willing to swap a Champions League to win the AFCON.
"Winning with my country, which has never won the Africa Cup of Nations, would be magnificent.
I am even ready to swap a Champions League to win an Africa Cup of Nations. The return to Dakar would be extraordinary. This is my biggest and most crazy dream." - Sadio Mane
Algeria captain, Riyad Mahrez won this year Premier League with Manchester City. The 28-year-old forward believes they can take Senegal head on after their late winner against Nigeria.
'"We are so happy to be in the final because it is something unbelievable," "It is a great feeling.
"We have been very good in this tournament. We have scored 12 goals and conceded only two but definitely this game (vs. Nigeria) has given us more confidence to play the final. We are capable of winning it.'" - Riyad Mahrez
