Mbappe believes that the Catalan striker deserves the Ballon d'Or award after another stunning season. The Argentine striker has scored 50 goals and made 22 assists in just 49 appearances this season and Mbappe is certain that when the award is presented towards the end of the year, the Barcelona striker will be the one receiving it. "The favourite [for the Ballon d’Or] is Messi,” Mbappe said.
Although, the Catalans were defeated in the Champions League by Liverpool. The Paris Saint-Germain striker does not believe Messi's exit from the Champions League will affect his bid for the award.
“The elimination in Champions does not change anything, he is the number one in everything," said Mbappe. “He has shown this year that he is the best player and although the year goes until December, I'm not worried about him, he's going to play until December."
Messi will have further chances at both club and international level because Barcelona will take on Valencia on Saturday in the Copa del Rey final and the Argentine will still play in Argentina this summer for the Copa America.
