Current World-class Players That Are Under 21


We take a look at players that are under the age of 21 and are currently performing at world-class level.


Kylian Mbappe

This 20-year-old wonderboy has won a World Cup playing for his country- France in 2018. The young Frenchman plays for Ligue 1 club, Paris Saint-Germain, having scored 52 goals in 79 appearances since he joined the club on loan from 2017. The young forward has also scored 12 goals on 30 occasions for his country, making him the first French player to score a goal at the World Cup at the age of 19. 

Vinícius Júnior

This youngster hails from Brazil, and he is the youngest player on our list. The Brazillian forward began his professional career at the age of 16 playing for Brazillian club- Flamengo. The 18-year-old forward is now a senior player at Real Madrid making him the first-ever Madrid player to play for the senior squad after the turn of the millennium. The Brazillian has scored 4 goals in 28 appearances and 4 goals in 5 appearances for Real Madrid's reserve team (Real Madrid Castilla). 


Christian Pulisic

Christian Pulisic- move to chelsea

Pulisic is an American player living the American dream in Europe- Borrusia Dortmund. The 20-year-old player signed with Dortmund in 2016 and has made 25 appearances this season scoring 5 goals for the club. However, the American player is currently signed with Premier League club- Chelsea but will remain at Dortmund for the remainder of the 2018-2019 season. Pulisic's transfer to Chelsea costs €64 million ($73 million £58 million) making him the most expensive American player of all-time. The Borrusia Dortmund winger has made 25 appearances for his country and scoring 10 goals. 

Alban Lafont

Alban Lafont-youngest goalkeeper

The 20-year-old goalkeeper plays for Ligue 1 club- Fiorentina and has become the youngest goalkeeper to reach 50 Ligue 1 appearances in the past 30 years, and was awarded as the youngest goalkeeper in Ligue 1 at the age of 16 in 2015. The young goalie originating from Burkina Faso has represented France at the youth levels making 6 appearances for the country. 


Matthijs de Ligt 

Matthijs de Ligt -dutch

The 19-year-old plays for Ajax as a central defender. In 2017, de Ligt became the youngest player to play in a European Cup final at the age of 19 and also the youngest Dutch player to play for the national team since 1931. The Dutch international player has made 43 appearances and scored 4 goals for Ajax this season and has 15 appearances and a goal for the Netherlands national team.
