Major talking points from Premier League match day 26

It was another thrilling weekend of Premier League. There were a number of shocks and crucial wins for sides at the wrong end of the table.

Where else to start than at the King Power. Leicester City were surprise winner against a Liverpool side who are pushing for a top four finish.
Jamie Vardy was the star of the show in the win over Liverpool
The foxes made the headlines for the wrong reasons last week in the wake of sacking Claudio Ranieri 9 months on after he won them the league.

The players have come under fire since Ranieri got axed and as such, it was imperative they showed some sort of response against a Liverpool side who haven't been at their best this calendar year.

The Foxes emerged 3-1 victors over the Reds on the night to move 2 points clear of the drop zone. For Liverpool, they are now 14 points behind log leaders, Chelsea and talk of the title is surely over.

Elsewhere,  A Harry Kane hat-trick at White Hart Lane saw Tottenham Hotspur ease to a 4-0 victory over Stoke City.

The victory sees Tottenham up to 2nd albeit having played a game more than 3rd place Manchester City who didn't play at the weekend due to Manchester United's EFL Cup endeavors. Arsenal are another who weren't in action at the weekend.

Over in Wales, Chelsea capitalised on a number of errors by the Swansea rear guard to win the game 3-1.

Away from the Premier League, Manchester United fought past a determined Southampton side to win the game 3-2. The win saw United win the league cup for the first time since 2010.

The first half of the game a was all Southampton as they exposed the frailties in the United back line but they soon found themselves 2 goals behind. Not willing to throw in the towel, Gabbiadini halved the deficit to one with a sweet finish from Ward-Prowse's cross

No sooner had the second 45 started when Southampton levelled the tie. It was Gabbiadini again who got the better of Chris Smalling to finish past the hapless David De Gea.

United, however, won the contest right at the death thanks to an Ibrahimovic bullet header from Ander Herrera's inch-perfect cross.

The Premier League resumes next weekend with Manchester United hosting Bournemouth. Later that day, Liverpool entertain Arsenal in what promises to be an enthralling match which could be crucial in determining who finishes in the top four.
